Robert Thornton wins the 2012 UK Open in style

Robert Thornton has had the best weekend of his life, not only as he won "the FA cup of darts” in the UK Open but it was the way he got to the final.The Thorn defeated the likes of Mark Webster, Gary Anderson, Dennis Priestley, Wes Newton and  the very impressive Dave Chisnall to reach the final stand off with the worlds best Phil Taylor.

Taylor started off really well and looked like he would take yet another UK Open title, There was a slight delay at 3-1 as a spectator decided to try and get on stage, bad mistake, the security swiftly got him out.

After that incident, Taylor looked to have been shaken up slightly with the matter. Thornton took full advantage and started scoring really well.hitting four 180s within 4 legs.

Thornton then started to run away with the game and quickly gained a 10-4 lead and was one away from victory.

The Power pulled one back to 10-5, but Thornton sealed victory and his second major with a 121 finish on bullseye, The Thorn picked up a cheque for £40,000 and a fancy new Speedy Services UK Open Trophy.

Thornton said: "It hasn’t sunk in what I’ve done yet, when I won the World Masters in 2007 it was a great achievement but to beat Phil Taylor in a televised final is a very special moment in my career”
